AnimalFair.com’s Bark Business Tour will raise money and awareness for the K9s For Warriors organization-whether it’s a donation of $10 or $100 or more, Wendy and Animal Fair Media vow to keep digging until enough funds are raised to pair 20 returning U.S. Veterans stricken with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) with 20  rescued Service Dogs. The Bark Business Tour will stop in 10 cities, and won’t “roll over” until at least $200,000 is raised. Join us and help us save the life of a vet and a dog.

Diamond contacted Ricochet’s guardian, Judy Fridono asking if Ricochet could fundraise for this cause, and represent San Diego. Since Ricochet has been working with local active duty military with PTSD for several years now, it was a great fit. Ricochet raised the $10,000 within several weeks.

After learning about the alarming suicide rates of veteran’s with PTSD through Craigslist Founder Craig Newmark, Wendy Diamond made the decision to embark on a journey to help veterans suffering with PTSD and pair them with rescue service dogs. Diamond is committed “Veterans have fought selflessly for our freedom – it’s our time to fight for them.” Diamond is determined to bring the statistic of the veteran suicide rate down and is calling everyone, friends and acquaintances to help her with this mission.

Our tour includes support from Glee’s Jane Lynch, NBC’s Chicago Fire’s Taylor Kinney, David Eigenberg, and Joe Minosa, Halo, Purely for Pets, co-owned by Ellen DeGeneres(Ellen donated 2000 pounds of dog food to the K9s For Warriors service dogs), Los Angeles Lakers’ Jeanie Buss and Phil Jackson, Musicians The Go-Gos, SurfDog Ricochet, Fox’s Raising Hope star Garret Dillahunt, Law and Order’s Danny Pino, Supermodel Tyson Beckford, New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton and the most generous of business magnates, Craigslist Founder Craig Newmark, Ingram Industries’ John Ingram and more…To date just over $200,000 has been raised for K9s For Warriors – 40 lives Saved! 20 dogs – 20 Veterans with PTSD!

In San Diego, we will honor Rob, 33, United States Marine Sergeant who served for 8 years. He graduated K9s For Warriors in February 2012, where he was paired with Bravo, a Labrador.

 About Surf dog Ricochet

Ricochet was slated to be a service dog for a person with a disability, but, due to her interest in chasing prey, she had to be released from that role.  She went from service dog to SURFice dog, and is now raising funds and awareness for human and animal causes.  She inspires people all over the world with her positive energy, and charitable, paw it forwawrd lifestyle.  She has an inspirational video on YouTube that went viral “From Service Dog to SURFice Dog” and has over 4.2 million views.  For more information, visit: http://www.SurfDogRicochet.com or on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/SurfDogRicochet

Golden Retriever to throw first pitch at San Diego Padres Game Tonight

SURFice dog Ricochet, the golden retriever, “is the only dog in the world who surfs with kids with special needs, people with disabilities and wounded warriors as an assistive aid and SURFice dog.”  Ricochet and her surfing buddies Patrick Ivison and Ian McFarland will be throwing the ceremonial first pitch tonight at Petco Park where the San Diego Padres host the Chicago Cubs.

The pitch commemorates Ricochet’s 4rth anniversary as a SURFice dog and a fundraising milestone of $300,000 to benefit human/animal causes.

Ricochet’s owner, Judy Fridono says

I’m honored to have Ricochet throw out the first pitch with Patrick and Ian. It will be interesting to see if she runs to home plate and scores a run as the boys throw their first pitches!  Chicago is my home town, and I’m really excited the Padres are playing the Cubs. It’s an extra special treat

Enter Sweepstakes to win $100 Petco gift card or a “pawtographed” baseball.  Click here for details!  Must enter by 10pm PST today, Friday August 23, 2013.

Update:  Ricochet is dedicating this pitch to Chris Lane.  Her Facebook page reads:

I’m going to honor Chris Lane during my 1st pitch at the Padres game tonight. Please take a moment to think of him at 7pm PST as I run to home plate to strike out violence. RIP Chris & may your family find strength as they try to get through this tragedy. If you haven’t heard this story, here’s the link “

Finding Purpose With Your Animal Companion – Judy Fridono

This is a new video released by SurfDogRicochet that I found very inspiring.  It actually brought me to tears.  Its like a virtual hug.  When you have a few moments, take time to watch this video, and share with anyone who has a dog, or needs a hug!

Betty White. Just one more reason to love Golden Retrievers

Betty White is an actress and animal activist. She also happens to own a golden retriever named Pontiac.  He was rescued from Guide Dogs For the Blind in 2010.  Before that, she had a golden named Kitta, also a rescued former guide dog who had bad hips.

Betty was an only child growing up and only had pets as siblings.  She eventually came to love the golden retriever for it’s ability to read their humans feelings.  Kitta took care of Betty after her hip surgery, and she spent her 90th birthday with her favorite companion, Pontiac.

Once someone has had the good fortune to share a true love affair with a Golden Retriever, one’s life and one’s outlook is never quite the same.” –Betty White

I was born in the very early seventies, and grew up watching Betty White on Mary Tyler More, The Golden Girls, and more recently, on Hot in Cleveland and Off Their Rockers.

Betty was recently honored at The Second Annual American Humane Association’s Hero Dog Awards. Here she met Surf Dog Ricochet (another amazing Golden Retriever!) and agreed to match any donations that were raised on the sale of a custom made dog dress for dogs in need.

Here is Betty White  and Pontiac pairing with the Morris Animal Foundation to fight canine cancer.  Another great site that needs to be mentioned (and worth a whole blog post) is Land of Pure Gold.  This is a site ran by Rochelle Lasseur dedicated to cancer research in golden retrievers.  It is my favorite golden retreiver site on the web.  Click here to read a great article about Betty White from Rochelle.

Thank you Betty White, for all you do for animals!
