Golden Retriever Attacked By Pit Bull

On Tuesday, November 20th, In Murrieta, California, Fred Filgo was walking his golden retriever “Bradley” when they were attacked by his friend’s Pit bull.  Apparently the dog escaped under a garage door.

He jumped up and bit me right in the stomach and that shook me up. It made me not want to get in front of him.

Next the dog went after Bradley.

“I had my hand in his mouth trying to pull his mouth off my dog. And I had my face up against his. And I suddenly realized I wasn’t in a good place.” said Filgo.

Neighbors came to assist and eventually they got the pit to release its’ grip on the golden retriever.

Bradley has injuries totaling $1300 in vet bills as well as Filgo’s own medical expenses for his injuries.  Despite the attack, Fllgo doesn’t know if the dog should be put down, and is not angry at the dog’s owner.

The pit bull is in quarantine for 10 days and the dog’s owner says he will be “getting rid” of the dog…

Top 5 Other Breeds I Love…

1. The German Shepherd.  Intelligent, protective, gentle, noble, and heroic.  An amazing breed that, similar to the golden retriever,  has been over-commercialized.  Yes, they shed.  I don’t care!

2. The Greyhound.  I would love to own a greyhound.  Specifically, I would love to rescue a retired racing greyhound.  This is still on my bucket list.  There is just something about that long nose and those beady eyes!  They also don’t seem to be a problem in the shedding department.

3. The Newfoundland.  Perhaps it is because I am Canadian, but these dogs are like Nannys, or lifeguards.  A very gentle family pet. If only they didn’t drool so much.  Actually, I could live with this!

4.  The Doberman.  Another gentle giant. Excellent with children, and (I think) very little shedding for this negatively exploited breed.  Tucker’s best friend is a doberman.  My daughters’ have a male named Fletch at their dad’s who sometimes gets to romp with Tucker.

5.  The Rottweiler.  A “doberman on steroids”  Why wouldn’t I want to own one of these big babies?  Look at that face!

As you can see, I am partial to the large breeds.  I have nothing against Pit bulls, but have never had the pleasure of actually interacting with one (they are presently banned here in Ontario.)  A boxer is another great breed.  Oh, there are so many!!

Golden Retriever Attacked By Two Pit bulls – Rescued by School Bus Driver

A 10 year old golden retriever named Jordon is fortunate after being attacked by two pit bulls last week in Canandaigua, NY.   Cynthia Devaney was walking her 3 month old grandson in a stroller, with the dog’s leash attatched, when 2 pit bulls dragged their owner towards them and the dogs began to attack.

The stroller was knocked over in the attack, and Devaney clung to her grandson yelling for help for several minutes.

David Bliss, 75 yrs, a school bus driver was just finishing his route when he noticed the disturbance.  He pulled over and eventually pulled the pit bulls off of Jordan.

Jordon suffered puncture wounds to her neck and a bloody eye, while Bliss suffered injuries to his knee and elbow, as well as 9 stitches in the hand.

The pit bulls are currently in quarantine and a hearing is scheduled for next week at the Canadaigua Town Court to determine the outcome of the pit bulls.  The video states that no charges will be laid, but according to an article from WHEC Rochester, The Humane Society in Ontario County advised that the owner of the pit bulls,  Rose Burnett is getting charged with two counts of harboring a dangerous dog.

My heart goes out to the responsible pit bull owners..how frustrating this must be…
