The people at Freshpet have created a commercial staring shelter dogs (and one patient cat!) from The Humane Society of Utah who are in need of homes. (Many have found one since the airing of this commercial!)The golden retriever plays a “teenager”, but there are so many cute dogs who are enjoying some Christmas cheer.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone who is celebrating!
Here’s a behind the scenes look at the making of the video, in case you didn’t get enough.
Today, August 26th is National Dog Day in the U.S. As a Canadian, I am also celebrating, because it is also known as International Dog Day, or Dog Appreciation Day. A day dedicated to dogs! Why not?
National Dog Day began in 2004. It was founded by pet lifestyle expert and author Colleen Paige and aims to bring attention to “ the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day – for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for a child who is disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage“
At a clinic in Tulsa, Oklahoma their lives a blind golden retriever who suffers from seizures. His name is Tanner. He is 2 1/2 years old, and his owner died in 2010. Since then, he has lived in a foster home, which became too trying for the foster parents, with the seizures and all, and the Sooner Golden Retriever Rescue. He is currently at the rescue, and was suffering seizures every night. That is, until Blair arrived. Blair arrived very stressed, and suffering from a gunshot wound. He looks to be a lab mix of some sort. Anyways, Tanner and Blair bonded, and Blair is Tanner’s “eyes” and guides him around by a leash. It really is a beautiful thing to watch. Since the dogs have bonded, Tanners seizures have become less frequent, and Blair’s anxiety seems to have lessened. The Rescue is hoping the dogs will be adopted together. Original story from KTUL News here.
This is a horrible story about a 4 month old golden retriever puppy who was found wandering around a neighborhood in Severn, Maryland with an elastic band around his testicles. Obviously an attempt to home-neuter the sweet little guy. Apparently the testicles were shriveled and discolored, and a vet in Annapolis successfully neutered the dog and treated him for an internal infection. They have named the dog “Cola” and I assume he will be placed for adoption. Apparently several people have already come forward.
